When an entire city hosts a wedding

The wedding of three girls of the Government After Care Home in Kozhikode on Monday is set to be a grand affair with all of the city chipping in for the event.

In the wedding invites, the slot of parents of brides has been taken up by District Collector Seeram Sambasiva Rao, District Child Protection Officer Aneeta S. Linn and Government After Care Home superintendent K. Sathi, who has been a mother figure to the three girls ever since they joined the home. Anju, Mohini and Sindhu will get married to Sreejith from Palakkad, Jasin from Kozhikode and Shinoj from Malappuram on the care home premises.

While a private beauty parlour in the city has taken up the task of bridal make-up, a freelance photographer will click photos of the wedding ceremony and the pre-wedding party on Sunday, being organised by Arm of Joy, a non-governmental organisation.

The wedding eve was as memorable as any other in the Malabar region, with music, dance performances and a DJ party. Arm of Joy has also taken care of the wedding dresses, jewellery, cosmetics and other accessories of the brides.

K.T. Sushaj, councillor with the Kozhikode Corporation, has sponsored the stage decoration while psychologist Ramya Raman and gynaecologist Jitha Vineeth volunteered to provide the brides with pre-marital counselling.

While the staff at the sub collector’s office has sponsored the wedding eve feast, the wedding feast for 500 people is being sponsored by KDC Bank. The staff of the Social Justice Department and that of Department of Women and Child Welfare are also actively participating in the wedding preparations.

Financial aid

Smiles, a student welfare charitable society, will provide financial assistance of ₹1 lakh for the brides, who will also get ₹1 lakh each from the Department of Women and Child Welfare.
