Security forces killed five top Hizbul Mujahedeen and Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists on Sunday South Kashmir's Kulgam district. The slain terrorists have been identified as Waseem Ahmad Rather, Aqib Nazir Mir, Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat, Idrees Ahmad Bhat and Zahid Ahmad Parray.

"It was a combined group of Hizbul Mujhadeen and LeT. They were wanted for their involvement in a series of terror crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities," the spokesperson said.

The police said Waseem, Aqib and Parvaiz were involved in the killings of a civilian Mohd Iqbal Kawaq and Mukhtar Ahmad Malik, a local army soldier of 162 Territorial Army (TA), at Shurat village.

On September 17, terrorists disguised as journalists barged into Malik's house and shot him dead.

Malik had come home to participate in the last rites of his son when militants struck.

Arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter. Bodies of the terrorists were handed over to their families.

Meanwhile, terrorists lobbed a grenade at a market near Palladium Chowk. Eleven people were injured in the attack – seven security personnel and four civilians.

The incident occurred at 6.45 pm when the area was bustling with activities. The injured civilians have been identified as Humaira, Abdul Qayoom, Taliba Gulshan and Shadab Shah. Police said the injured have been shifted to the hospitals where their condition is stated to be stable.

Shoppers throng Lal Chowk on Sunday as exclusive Sunday Market is established every weekend. "It was crowded and busy market place", said Sanjay Sharma, CRPF spokesman.
