Students asked to focus on cooperative sector
TNN | Feb 10, 2019, 05:55 ISTMysuru: Former VC M Madaiah on Saturday asked the youth to focus on rural development by involving in cooperative sector.
Speaking at a meet on ‘Kautilya Arthashastra and Karnataka’s Economy’ hosted by the Oriental Research Intitute, International Research Parishat and University of Mysore at the Senate Bhavan, Madaiah said rural development and co-operative sectors play a vital role in economic development. These subjects are incorporated in the syllabus of BA and MA degrees and students ought to learn them. This way, students can work for the development of rural areas.
Speaking on the occasion, VC Prof G Hemantha Kumar said that the book Arthashastra penned by Kautilya is available at the library of University of Mysore and in the year 1904 it was preserved by historian Shamashatri. Kautilya’s work on economy is available in various languages of the world. There is need for the younger generation to understand Arthashastra, he added.
Principal of the Government First Grade College of Tumakuru M S Narasimhan spoke on the contributions of Krishnaiah Gowda in the field of economics and said that Krishanaiah has given importance to indigenous factors in his research. Starting his career as a professor in economics, he rose to the fame of heading the International Council for Development Research, he added.
Kautilya’s Arthashastra speaks on the economic and social equality. His works are relevant even in the present day, said director of ORI S Shivarajappa.
