55-yr-old alcoholic farmer murders wife, surrenders
TNN | Feb 11, 2019, 00:49 ISTTirupur: A 55-year-old farmer has beaten his wife to death and surrendered before police near Uthiyur here on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Poongodi, 46, wife of S Duraisamy, of Olapalayam near Kurukkapalayam at Uthiyur.
According to police, Duraisamy was an alcoholic and his wife had warned him not to ride two-wheeler, as he used meet with accidents often.
When Duraisamy attempted to take possession of motorcycle, while his sons were riding, Poongodi intervened and stopped him from using it for fear that he might meet with some accident.
After a while, he made an issue of it and quarrelled with Poongodi. In a fit of rage, he attacked her using an iron rod, killing her on the spot, an investigation officer said.
Duraisamy subsequently surrendered before the Uthiyur police, who produced him before a local court that remanded him in judicial custody. Later, he was lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Meanwhile, Poongodi’s body was sent to the government hospital in Kangeyam for postmortem.
