19 cows die after consuming pesticide laced crop
TNN | Feb 11, 2019, 04:00 ISTRajkot: A total of 19 cows died after consuming pesticide-laced castor seed flowers in Methan village of Dhrangadhra taluka in Surendranagar on Sunday.
According to animal rights activist J K Patel, as there is no grass due to poor monsoon in the village, the cows had strayed into the farm where cultivation of caster seeds was done. The farm owner had sprayed insecticide on the crops on Saturday night and the cows apparently chewed those caster seed flowers.
“As the poison started showing its effect, the cows started dropping dead one by one. We have called veterinary doctors from Dhrangadhra. They have started conducting postmortem. The villagers have alleged that though the state government has declared Dhrangadhra taluka as drought-hit, it has not provided the village with fodder at cheaper rates,” said Patel.
