PM event video clip doctored: Tripura BJP
TNN | Feb 11, 2019, 04:50 ISTGuwahati: A video clip showing Tripura sports minister Manoj Kanti Deb “inappropriately touching” social welfare minister Shantana Chakma at Saturday’s event where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several projects went viral on Sunday.
The Tripura unit of BJP dismissed the video as a malicious campaign launched by the opposition.
Shantana could not be reached for comment.
Deb said the video was doctored. “How can this be possible and, that too, in the presence of the PM and a large crowd? Someone has to be of very dirty mentality to doctor the video of a programme where I was trying to come forward,” he added.
Calling the video a “conspiracy by the opposition to malign” the minister, Victor Shom, in charge of the media cell of BJP’s Tripura unit, said, “I went through the entire footage and found nothing inappropriate. The video clip is cropped ... If someone sees (the video) for at least a second before the alleged scene, the picture becomes clear.” He added, “The original video showed Deb was on a corner of the stage. While trying to come forward when the PM was about to inaugurate the projects, it happened inadvertently.”
