The crash at Riverwood in the city's south just before 6am on Monday has caused commuters to experience delays, as crews attempt to fix the extensive damage
A white Honda Accord sedan ploughed through a fence and caused extensive damage to the box, damaging signalling equipment.
Fixing the box will take at least two days, Nine News reported.
The car was ditched by the driver and police are forensically examining the vehicle.
Police have asked for the public's help in identifying the driver.
All main lines except for the T1 and T4 lines could be affected, and commuters are being advised to check their apps for delays.
'We also have extra customer service staff and train crew on hand to assist, with buses at strategic locations to help if needed,' Sydney Trains tweeted on Monday.

The delays are expected to be worst on the Leppington Line and Inner West Line services.
Frustrated commuters took to social media to vent their frustrations.
'Great way to start a Monday,' one person said sarcastically.
'I'm stuck on a train stopped on the tracks just before Beverly Hills... Looks like I won't be getting to work on time,' another person said.
Another traveller said he was forced to wait 30 minutes after his scheduled service was cut.
