This year 11 different surfing events with more than 800 competitors is taking place in the Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens local government areas. In addition, there is the Sacred Tree Markets at Stockton and the Drop Festival at King Edward Park.
The event features international fields of competitive surfers in the Burton Automotive Pro (World Surf League Men’s Qualifying Series 6000 point event), the Holmes Civil Developments Women’s Pro (World Surf League Women’s Qualifying Series 6000 point event) and the Lake Mac City Pro Junior (World Surf League Qualifying Series 1000 point event) along with a broad range of complementary surfing events.
Surfest Newcastle Australia 2019 commenced on 2nd February 2019 with Port Stephens Toyota Wildcard Trials on Birubi Beach and will conclude on the 17th March 2019 at Merewether Beach, where the male and female champions of the prestigious WSL QS6000 events will add their names to an enviable list of winners.
Notably, Merewether Beach was crowned a national surfing reserve in 2009 and is home to festival patron and Australia’s most accomplished men’s world professional surfing champion, Mark Richards (1979-82).
