KOLKATA: Nadia police has arrested two persons in connection with the murder of Krisnagunj MLA Satyajit Biswas, who was shot dead from a close range on Saturday at Hanskhali near his home. Biswas was attending a Saraswsti Puja inauguration programme and was on the dais when assailants fired from his back.

The Officer-in charge of Hanskhali police station was suspended for his failure to provide security to the MLA. The MLA's body guard was also on leave on Saturday. So his role is also under probe.

Trinamool secretary general Partha Chatterjee blamed BJP for the murder. The MLA was sitting on a chair when he was fired and there was a sound of snap shot, a witnesses said.

The MLA's body was brought to his home at Hanskhali on Sunday where people from different parts of his constituency thronged to see him for the last time.

Biswas had won the seat in 2015 bypoll and later won again in 2016. He was a popular youth leader, for which he was targetted by BJP claimed Partha Chatterjee.

Gouri Shankar Dutta Trinamool district president of Nadia alleged that Mukul Roy, former Trinamool MP who switched over to BJP, is the mastermind behind the murder. Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee will visit Hanskhali on Monday.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh demanded a CBI probe in the MLA's murder, to stop slander against BJP. Ghosh claimed the murder to be a result of inner party feud of Trinamool. Only a CBI probe will help to nab the killers, as CID is biased under Trinamool regime, Ghosh said.
