AHMEDABAD: Over 100 persons, primarily from Shahpur’s Halim ni Khadki area, were admitted to the VS Hospital on Sunday evening following complaints of food poisoning. Another 200-odd persons were provided primary treatment for diarrhoea and vomiting at the hospital. The affected persons were part of a marriage ceremony that took place on Sunday.
Imran Khedawala, Khadia-Jamalpur MLA, said that the affected persons were part of a wedding that took place at around 2 pm at the Kunwarji Lakhaji Hall near Delhi Chakla on Sunday. “At about 5 pm, the guests started complaining about nausea and severe stomach problems after which they had to be shifted to the VS Hospital for treatment,” he said, adding that majority of the affected were women and children.
“We suspect the mawa (khoya) used to prepare the carrot ‘halwa’ was not good. We have asked the health department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to take samples and analyse it,” said Khedawala.
Dr Kuldip Joshi, RMO of the VS Hospital, said that about 100 patients are undergoing treatment. “People had come with symptoms of food poisoning and corresponding treatment has been initiated. All are out of danger but would be kept under observation for some time,” he said. tnn
