The AIADMK and the governments headed by it in the State remained saviours of minority communuties, said Minister for Dairy Development K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji.
Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the marriage hall of Sivakasi Muslim Shafi Madhhab Big Mosque Jamat here on Saturday, he said the party had been a force that protected the minorities since the days of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran.
Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa remained a leader above casteist and religious divides. She had a special affection for Muslims and ordered distribution of 5,415 tonnes of rice to over 3,000 mosques during Ramzan fasting. That step was appreciated by the media even in Pakistan, he said, adding the present government was also following in the footsteps of the party’s leaders.
Mr. Bhalaji said there were no communal and caste clashes under the present government. People from all quarters were living peacefully in the State, he said.
The Jamat gave a title ‘Protector of Minorities’ to Mr. Bhalaji. Correspondent of Muslim Schools K.A.M.K. Mohideen Adbul Khader, State secretary of Indian National League and former Jamat president Jahangir, former correspondent of the schools K.A.A. Asanbadhurudeen were present.
