PUNE: The Yerawada police have filed a case against at least 150 members and supporters of Hindu Rashtra Sena (HRS) chief Dhananjay Desai for illegally taking out a procession on his release on bail from Yerawada jail on Saturday afternoon.

The Bombay high court recently granted conditional bail to Desai, almost five years after he was arrested on June 10, 2014, in connection with techie Mohsin Shaikh’s murder on June 2, 2014 during the riots that broke out in Hadapsar over an objectionable post on the social media.

“The case has been registered against Desai’s supporters and not against him as he was in jail and did not organise the procession,” senior inspector Dinkar Mohite told TOI.

Mohite said, “Desai’s friends, followers and supporters had gathered in front of the prison around 12.30pm on Saturday in anticipation of his release. The followers waved saffron flags and then took the procession towards the city.”
