A nine-hour drinking session on Boxing Day ended in tragedy after a 21-year-old man was murdered by his new drinking buddy in drunken 'jealous rage'.

Robert John Nott faced Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday and was found guilty of murdering Nathan Wiseman, and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The horrific incident occurred on December 26, 20015, in which Nott, a convicted armed robber with jealousy issues, stabbed Mr Wiseman to death.

The two men had met on Boxing Day 2015 and started drinking heavily near the banks of the Noosa River on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

But the new friendship soured when Nott began to suspect the younger man wanted to seduce his girlfriend, and violence erupted.

Through his lawyers, Nott, 41, claimed self-defence, saying Mr Wiseman hit him before he stabbed the younger man in the ensuing scuffle.

Mr Wiseman's bloody body was found in a Tewantin street after midnight by passers-by. He had stab wounds to his neck, heart and lungs.

According to Mr Wiseman's mother, Pauline Thorn, her son had sensed a bad vibe from Nott and attempt to leave but Nott had chased him down.

Outside court, Ms Thorn called for the Government to bring back capital punishment.

'A person who attacks a defenceless person with a weapon is a pure coward,' Ms Thorn said according to The Sunshine Coast Daily.

Ms Thorn described her son as 'quietly spoken' and 'friendly' and said he was the type of person to chat to anyone, a trait which sadly led to his death.

She said he was popular at school and had befriended an 81-year-old, named Don, who he would go golfing with and regularly spoke to on the phone.

She added that her son was an animal lover and on one occasion had been left heartbroken while visiting the RSPCA because he'd been unable to help all the older dogs.
