Six trains connecting Mumbai to Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand were cancelled on Saturday and several others were delayed by over six hours due to the Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan.

Western Railway (WR) will cancel 30 trains from February 10 to February 13, of which 24 link Mumbai to various northern States. WR is also diverting 25 long-distance trains arriving in and departing from the city through Jhansi.

Ravinder Bhakar, chief public relations officer, WR, said several trains have to be cancelled as the diversion of trains from several zones has led to scheduling issues. Moreover, since the diversion is much longer than the scheduled route, trains are coming late into the city, leading to a shortage of rakes.

The trains that were cancelled on Saturday include the Mumbai Central-Nizamuddin August Kranti Rajdhani Express, Mumbai Central-Firozpur Janta Express, Dehradun Express, Bandra Terminus-Nizamuddin Garib Rath Express, Bandra Terminus-Lucknow Express and Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bandra Terminus Yuva Express.

The August Kranti Rajdhani Express and the Janta Express are likely to remain cancelled for the next few days. The Mumbai Central-New Delhi Rajdhani Express will be diverted and will be late for the next few days.

“Help desks have been set up at Mumbai Central, Bandra, Borivali, Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot and Indore and passengers are being informed of cancellations and diversions through bulk messages. Refund counters have been opened,” Mr. Bhakar said. WR has allowed catering stalls to operate through the night.
