A 28-year-old woman was allegedly raped many times by several men after she was lured by a woman on the pretext of getting her a job at Geeta Colony in Shahdara.
The Delhi Police arrested two persons, including the woman who lured the victim, in connection with the case on Friday.
While the woman who lured the victim has been arrested under charges of human trafficking, the man has been charged with rape. The case is under investigation, said a police officer.
The victim is from Bengal and has been staying in the city for the last few years.
Her husband lost his job after a sealing drive in the city and the family was finding it difficult to meet both ends.
Financial crisis
Narrating her ordeal that started on October 2018, the victim said, after her husband lost his job, the family was in a financial crisis.
As she had to take care of her six-month-old daughter, she discussed her problem with a woman in her neighbourhood. The woman promised to get her a job as a domestic help at several homes in the vicinity.
“The woman took me to the house of a property dealer for a job, but there I was raped by a man. When I complained to the woman, I was threatened that the rape video would be leaked. She took me to a hospital as I was bleeding from my private part,” said the victim in her complaint.
Over the next few months, the victim said she was gang raped five-six times. The police said that the woman was unable to recount the dates or places of the crime, but believes that she had been pushed into prostitution.
The survivor finally gathered courage and approached the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday with a complaint and the matter was forwarded to the Delhi Police.
She was medically examined following which an FIR under relevant Sections of IPC has been registered at Geeta Colony police station.
“The victim was unable to understand Hindi as her mother tongue is Bengali. We have arranged a councillor and registered her compliant at Geeta Colony police station,” said a police officer.
