Excise Department seizes liquor worth Rs 20 lakh

PUNE: Officials from the State Excise Department’s Talegaon Dabhade division, on Friday, nabbed four persons and seized two cars, 1,953 liquor bottles, 216 beer cans and 14,595 labels (to be pasted on bottles), totally worth Rs 20 lakh in Maval taluka. 

Acting on a tip-off, the officials nabbed two persons while transferring liquor boxes between cars near Anjali Dhaba in Takawe village in Maval taluka. During further investigation, a large stock was found at a closed club house in Dawadmala near Biradwali village. Then, 10,200 labels were seized in Falne village. Further investigation led them to Wadeshwar village where the liquor bottles were hidden in a cowshed.

The officials said that the bottles were meant to be sold in Daman and Diu. The accused persons had smuggled them here and used to change the labels for sale in Maharashtra. 

The action was taken under the supervision of Divisional Deputy Commissioner (Pune) Arjun Ohol, Superintendent BH Tadvi, Deputy Superintendents SD Phulpagar, Sanjay Patil and Sanjay Jadhav.
