The Bru bodies have also threatened to launch a series of protests if the pending cash assistance and ration supplies are not released immediately.
In a letter addressed to Union home secretary Rajiv Gauba, joint secretary Satyendra Garg and National Human Rights Commission chairman Justice HL Dattu, 11 Bru organizations stated the Centre had earlier said that cash assistance and food grains would be provided to the Bru refugees till March this year. However, the cash assistance has been due from November last year and ration supplies for this month, which were supposed to be delivered by Tuesday (March 5), are also pending, they further stated, adding that they would launch immediate protests if the pending supplies are not released immediately.
The Centre at present provides Rs 5 per day to every adult and Rs 2.5 per day to every child living in these refugee camps. Additionally, each adult is provided 600 grams of rice each day and medical assistance from time to time. tnn
