PATNA: In Bihar, people can now lodge a complaint for repair of his/ her village road under the provision of the Bihar Right to Public Grievance Redressal Act, 2015.
Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday said the repair of rural roads would now be listed as one of the services under the Bihar Right to Public Grievance Redressal Act-2015 (BRPGRA) and people can approach their respective Public Grievance Redressal Officer (PGRO) for repair of rural roads and bridges within stipulated period.
With this, Bihar would become the first state in the country where people can lodge complain with a statutory officer for repair of rural roads. No other state so far has a Bihar like Right to Public Grievance Redressal Act.
Addressing a function of rural works department (RWD) at the CM Secretariat here, Nitish said since Bihar government has already introduced a scheme for continuous upkeep and maintenance of rural roads, the road connecting villages should not remain in bad shape at any cost.
The CM said if any stretch of village road is found in bad shape, any people can approach the PGRO and file a formal complaint seeking redressal under the Act. The PGRO then can call the concerned engineer of the RWD and ask him for repair of the road within a stipulated period of providing such services.
The CM said such complaints, at present, would be filed at the office of the PGRO. Later, arrangements for receiving such complaints under the Act would be made at each Panchayat Sarkar Bhavan, which are already functional in some of the selected panchayats across the state. He said separate counters would be opened at the Panchayat Sarakar Bhavan for receiving complaints under the BRPGRA and the Bihar Right to Public Service Act (BRTPS).
