Belagavi: The renovated church building of Sacred Heart Church at Madanbhavi in Bailhongal taluk, about 36 kms from here will be inaugurated at 11am on Sunday.
Archbishop Emeritus of Bangaluru, Rev Dr Bernard Moras, who has earlier served the diocese of Belagavi for nine years as its Bishop, will bless the renovated building and will also offer special mass.
Rev Fr Nelson Pinto, the parish priest of Madanbhavi, said on Saturday that the first church was constructed in 1936 by late Jesuit priest Rev Fr Thomas Kottaram when Belagavi and North Karnataka region were under Goa province.
“Sisters of Bethany, who assisted Fr Kottaram, are running a hostel for the poor and needy children coming from neighbouring villages such as Mallapur, Hanbaratti, and Murkibhavi,” Fr Nelson Pinto added.
“As the church was in a dilapidated condition, we decided to renovate it with the support from the state government and people’s contribution. We are happy that the renovated church has added to the spirituality and topography of Madanbhavi village,” Fr Nelson said.
A large number of Christians, priests and nuns are expected to take part in the inaugural and the religious celebrations that will follow.
