The Syndicate of the University of Madras has decided to seek an explanation from 13 employees charged with stealing answer papers from the Institute of Distance Education last February.
The Vice-Chancellor had lodged a police complaint and after inquiries pointed fingers at a few employees, a committee headed by retired DGP K. Ramanujam conducted an inquiry.
The Syndicate was informed about the report of the inquiry in November. A member said, “We will get explanations from the 13 staff members and then decide about the punishment.”
Appointment approved
The Syndicate has approved the appointment of K. Minraj, associate professor, Department of Cooperation, D.B. Jain College, as Dean, College Development Council.
It also approved revision of fee for certain categories such as affiliation, qualification approval and Institute of Distance Education courses. According to a member, the affiliation fee had been hiked from ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 to as much as ₹1 lakh. “There will be a fee for revival of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. We are also introducing a fee for approval of qualification for faculty and principals,” a university official said.
