A delegation led by Union Minister and former Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel called on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora here on Friday to submit a memorandum regarding what it alleged was the “misuse of official position” by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
The delegation comprised Member of Parliament Ramesh Bidhuri and Parvesh Verma, MLA Om Prakash Sharma, Chairman of Standing Committee Veena Virmani.
Raises 3 issues
In a statement, Mr. Goel said he raised three issues before the CEC. These included an allegation to the effect that the Delhi Chief Minister “himself is spreading blatant lies” that the BJP had deleted 30 lakh names from the voter’s list belonging to the Baniya, Muslims and Poorvanchali communities.
Secondly, Mr. Goel accused AAP workers of making phone calls to voters stating that their names had been deleted from the voter’s list and they can help voters get their names restored and thirdly AAP had announced “an exponential salary hike” for Imams and Moazzins in an “attempt to persuade them to vote for it.”
“The residents of Delhi are being constantly subjected to lies and falsehoods.Mr. Goel alleged.
Mr. Bidhuri submitted copies of an FIR and complaints to the CEC regarding bogus phone calls on the pretext of deletion of names from the voter’s lists. Mr. Verma said that the CEC should “immediately take cognizance of this issue” and call a press conference to inform citizens about the factual position and “clear the lies and falsehoods being spread by AAP in Delhi.”
According to Mr. Goel, the CEC assured the BJP delegation that he would order an inquiry into it and immediate action be taken.
