NHM workers extend strike
Chetna Choudhry | TNN | Feb 9, 2019, 01:44 ISTGURUGRAM: The National Health Mission (NHM) workers on Friday said they will extend their strike till Sunday.
Over 600 NHM employees in the city have been on strike since Tuesday, demanding increase in wages, permanent employment, etc.
Meanwhile, the Haryana government started to terminate on-strike workers. On Thursday, the health department terminated 5 workers in Faridabad and 70 in Mahendragarh.
Hariraj, state general secretary, NHM, said, “The health officials called on-strike workers in Gurugram and asked them to reveal the list of their leaders. After the workers told them there are no leaders, they started preparing a list with our names.”
This move the government allegedly agitated the NHM workers, who decided to extend the strike. Some of the workers told TOI they are upset with being called as “trouble mongers”.
According to the demands put forth by the NHM workers, they should be given permanent employment, allowances for uniform and children’s education, traveling and daily allowances, medical benefits, leaves, overtime for drivers, and more.
