In remarks that are bound to create a controversy Bihar Deputy Chief Minister
Sushil Kumar Modi on Friday claimed that
industries in
Maharashtra ‘would be shut if people from Bihar stop working in the state’.
“A huge number of people from Maharashtra as well as other states are currently in Bihar. Any person from any state can go and work anywhere and if people from Bihar stop working in Maharashtra then tomorrow the industries would be shut in Maharashtra.”said the BJP Deputy Chief Minister in Nagpur.
Sushil Kumar Modi had come to Nagpur as part of the party’s programme to reach out to the masses and was addressing a query on the anti-migrant sentiment in the state. He added that the people of the state had not stolen ‘any one’s job’ and they are getting employment in states like Maharashtra because the people from Bihar are ‘very honest and hardworking,’. “They work very hard to earn their money.”said Sushil Kumar Modi.
Modi’s remarks might lead to another controversy in the state as only recently
Mumbai Congress Chief
Sanjay Nirupam had claimed that Mumbai would come to a halt if ‘north Indians decided not to work’. Nirupam’s statements led to many in his own party criticising him for such remarks.
