Four shops continue to stock bags of banned thickness

GHMC Vigilance and Enforcement wing has conducted surprise inspections at Begum Bazar on Friday and seized four wholesale shops for using plastic bags under ban.

The shops using plastic covers less than 50 micron thickness were identified as Bhavani Plastics, Divya Traders, Tirumala Traders and Sanmathi Plastics.

Last week, the Enforcement teams raided and issued notices to 12 shops in Begum Bazar and seized more than 10 lakh plastic covers. Out of the 12, eight have given an affidavit that they would refrain from using the covers in future. The remaining four which had not responded, nor adhered to the rules, have been seized, a statement from GHMC informed. MLA Raja Singh, upon learning about the raids, came down to Begum Bazar, and questioned why manufacturers were not being raided. Upon being explained that the plastic covers were also being sourced from outside the state, he relented, and did not obstruct the process, Director of Vigilance and Enforcement, Viswajit Kampati informed.
