APCC chief seeks to contest from Kalyandurg

The APCC on Thursday started accepting the application forms and resume of the ticket aspirants from all the 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the State. As part of the exercise, PCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy submitted his form seeking to contest from the Kalyandurg constituency.

“The names of all the selected candidates will be finalised by the end of this month. The party will kick-start electioneering from the first week of March,” Mr. Reddy told the media later.

Selection criterion

Preference would be given to those who had relentlessly worked for the party in the last five years, he asserted, and said the DCC presidents would accept the application forms till February 10. Asked whether the candidature of those who were likely to join the party would be considered, Mr. Reddy said the leadership would take a call in such cases.

“Granting of SCS will be our poll plank,” he said, and reminded that the BJP rejected the proposal and the regional parties were not in a position to get it sanctioned.

‘Cong. only option’

“The Congress is the only alternative. The first file Rahul Gandhi will sign after becoming PM will be on granting SCS to A.P.,” he said.

It was on this day (February 7) in 2015 the Congress had launched the ‘Koti Santakala’ agitation, a signature campaign, for Polavaram and SCS, he recalled.

Mr. Reddy won from Kalyandurg in 2009 and did not contest the elections in 2014.

If elected, he promises to complete all the pending projects in the constituency, including industrialisation in Thimmasamudram, where 11,000 acres had been acquired and not put to use.

A large number of party activists came from Kalyandurg to support the candidature of Mr. Reddy as he submitted the form to DCC president K. Satyam.
