The Additional District Sessions Court I, Paravur, on Friday sentenced a woman charged with murdering her husband to life imprisonment.
Sajitha, 39, was the prime accused in the murder of Paul Varghese, 49, of Kakkanad. The second accused, Tisen Kuruvila, a resident of Kottayam and her lover, was set free in the absence of evidence.
According to the prosecution, the victim was strangulated by the two accused after serving him food mixed with sleeping pills when he returned after job on February 22, 2011. Sajitha herself alerted the relatives but allegedly gave contradictory accounts of the incident and even tried to stop the victim from being taken to hospital.
On reaching the hospital, relatives noticed marks on the victim’s neck and demanded a post mortem, which proved it to be a murder. The Thrikkakara sub inspector investigated the case.
