NEW DELHI: The lieutenant governor Anil Baijal on Friday asked civic agencies to optimise the use of mechanical road sweepers to tackle Delhi’s air pollution.
Currently, 45 mechanical road sweepers are being used by the three corporations and the New Delhi Municipal Council for wide roads. These have been procured to combat rising air pollution in the city.
A statement issued by the LG’s office stated the issue of air pollution was multidimensional and urban local bodies have an important role in tackling this menace. “Therefore, all urban local bodies should initiate necessary action as per expert advice and arrange for regular audits by a third party. Civic agency concerned should also carry a scientific assessment to find out if additional mechanical road sweepers are required in their jurisdiction to improve sanitation operations,” said LG Baijal.
