CHANDIGARH: The special court of CBI denied anticipatory bail to constable Pramod Kumar in graft case whereby the CBI officials had nabbed Maulijagran SHO Baljeet Singh and constable Surinder Rathi who were caught on the complaint of Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Maulijagran who runs a tavern next to a liquor shop in the area. The CBI on Thursday filed its reply in the special court and opposed his anticipatory bail and after which the court dismissed bail application of Pramod.
It was argued in the bail application that the verification report by CBI had directed to register an FIR against Baljeet Singh and Surinder Rathi who had named Pramod in the case. It was stated that during verification of report, no evidence came on record regarding his role in the case. It is said there is no recording of conversation between the complainant and Pramod.
The CBI had arrested two cops after they were allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs 45,000 to not frame a man in a drugs case.
Both the accused were booked under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120 B of the IPC. In his complaint to the CBI, Ramesh alleged that SHO demanded a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh for not registering a case against his nephew and others. The bribe amount was negotiated and reduced to Rs 55,000, after which the complainant gave Rs 10,000 to the cops the same day. Ramesh then approached the CBI following which a trap was laid to nab the accused.
