Danai Gurira has starred as the sword-wielding Michonne since season 3
Danai Gurira is reportedly saying goodbye to The Walking Dead.
The actress, 40, will leave the hit AMC series during season 10, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gurira, who has starred as the sword-wielding Michonne since season 3, reportedly will appear in a handful of episodes in season 10 before exiting the series.
AMC declined to comment on the report.
THR notes that she will still appear in the three planned Walking Dead movies alongside former leading man Andrew Lincoln.
“She has been very vocal about saying that she loves the show. We love Danai; we love that character. Right now, she’s got a lot of opportunities and she needs to weigh what she feels is best for her,” AMC programming president David Madden told The Hollywood Reporter in November. “But we certainly would want her on the show as long as she wants to be on it.”

The Walking Dead proved to be a breakout role for Gurira, who turned heads in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War this spring.

Last month, Black Panther took home the statue for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The film is also the first superhero movie nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
“It’s a journey, a step-by-step process,” Gurira previously told THR of finding a balance in her career. “It isn’t a perfect science; there are times when I have to make adjustments. But generally what I get to do is tell stories. That is what I feel is really at the core of my purpose. And it comes in different forms for me, so that is also a real blessing.”
The second half of The Walking Dead season 9 premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
