Nagpur: Love requires patience. It was no different for those who have been loving Vidarbha cricket since years. On Rose Day, Faiz Fazal’s men gave the fans another reason to love them.
Soon after retaining the title, the fans took to social media to showcase their fondness for the team. While some described it as a perfect Valentine’s Day gift for fans of Vidarbha cricket, others couldn’t stop from giving the win a political spin.

Hashtags like Vidarbha, Wasim Jaffer, Chandrakant Pandit and Aditya Sarvate were the nationwide trends for most of the day. Parallel were drawn between soon to be released movie ‘Gully Boy’ and Fazal’s team. Kaustubh Rewatkar, an ardent fan, wrote, “Apna time Aa Gaya! Prefect V-Day gift for those who’ve been loving Vidarbha cricket. That too on #RoseDay! These champions deserve bouquets and more!”

Rameshwar Singh, a veteran Twitterati, wrote, “Never thought I will live to see a day where Vidarbha would not just win back to back #Ranji titles, but will not lose any match in two seasons.”

Another fan wanted Mayor Nanda Jichkar to give an ‘honorary residentship’ to Vidarbha coach Pandit. “For his stupendous performance as a coach in ensuring two consecutive Ranji Trophy wins for Vidarbha, mayor should offer honorary resident ship to Chandrakant Pandit,” he wrote.

Personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, Harsha Bhogle and Sanjay Manjrekar too joined in to heap praises. Bhogle, especially, hailed the system. “One Ranji title could be down to just a great season. Two means there is something right about the system,” he wrote. Soon after Tendulkar praised Sarvate’s performance as ‘special’, the left-arm spinner became the toast of the nation on Twitter.

Political heavyweights including CM Devendra Fadnavis, whose schoolmate Fazal led the team, congratulated Vidarbha. “Congratulations to Vidarbha Cricket Team for clinching the #RanjiTrophy 2018-19, that too second time in a row! Proud of you, Champs!” Fadnavis tweeted.

Some didn’t mince words in giving a political spin to Vidarbha’s win. Ramesh Srivats, popular for his wit on Twitter, wrote, “The Nagpur team starts off the election year with a win. Congratulations Vidarbha, on winning the Ranji Trophy.” Anil Joseph, made it even more direct. “Interesting... Team from Nagpur defeats a team from Gujarat,” he wrote, hinting at RSS vs BJP one-upmanship game.

Nagpur City Police gauged the ‘josh’ at Jamtha perfectly. “The JOSH was really High there at #Jamtha #NagpurPolice congratulates C Pandit, @faizfazal and his boys on winning the #RanjiTrophy,” it wrote.
