Pune: Stock worth of Rs 3,25,304 was seized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune division on Thursday. About 763 strips of Galvus tablets and 229 strips of Januvia tablets were confiscated by the FDA officials.
 
These drugs were ‘not for sale’ drugs and officials admitted that these drugs were meant  to be supplied to government hospitals.
 
Speaking to Sakal Times, SB Patil, Assistant Commissioner FDA Pune, Additional Charge Joint Commissioner Drugs said that the four pharmaceuticals from the city had these drugs.

“These drugs were ‘not for sale’ drugs as they were meant for hospitals which are frequented by CGHS, ESCI patients. We received a tip regarding these illegal drugs and subsequently, FDA officials undertook the operations,” said Patil. 

He further added that both the drugs are commonly used for Type 2 diabetes.
 
He added that Chandan Pharma, Dhanraj Pharma, Royal Pharma from Pune were the suppliers from where these drugs were confiscated.

“Similar actions regarding some drugs were undertaken in Mumbai as well as Nashik. These drugs in Pune city were worth of Rs 3,25,304,” said Patil.

He further added that these medicines had a print on the packets notifying that the drugs were ‘not for sale’. 

“However, these prints were illegally removed by acetone or spirit and a fake price tag was attached,” said Patil.

Other officials present for the raid were Assistant Commissioners Ashwin Thakare and Rajesh Chaudhari, Drug Inspectors Vilas Tashkhedkar, Atish Sarkale, Jayshree Sawdatti, Vivek Khedkar, Suhas Sawant and others.
