BATHINDA: In another blow to SAD in Bathinda Akali councillor Pardeep Goyal from ward number 42 joined the Congress on Thursday. Punjab finance minister Manpreet Badal’s close relative Jaijeet Johal made Goyal join the Congress in the presence of district Congress president Arun Wadhawan and other leaders.
Earlier last month, three Akali councillors Rajinder Singh Sidhu, Harmandar Singh and Baljit Singh Raju Sran had joined Congress in Manpreet’s presence.
On the other hand, SAD’s former MLA Sarup Chand Singla and Bathinda mayor Balwant Rai Nath accused the Congress of using muscle power in intimidating Akali councillors and workers. Singla said the Congress was using unfair means in forcing Akali workers to join it. Jaijeet refuted the charges and said that the Congress was welcoming only those who were happy to join it. Goyal said going by the development agenda of the Congress he had decided to join the ruling party.
