Makkal Needhi Maiam founder Kamal Haasan on Thursday categorically ruled out any electoral pact with the DMK and the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam.
Talking to reporters here, Mr. Haasan said: “We have taken a plunge into politics to serve only good things to the people. Hence, we are careful not to indulge in a hasty handshake and get our hands stained”.
Stating that his party was always opposed to the ruling AIADMK, he said his that party would not have any truck with the DMK as well.
Asked about the prospects of aligning with the AMMK or the Congress, Mr. Haasan said that when the objective of MNM was to keep its hands clean, the question of handshake with such parties did not arise. The MNM wanted to win all the seats (in Lok Sabha polls), but it was more concerned about keeping its hands clean, he added.
On DMK leader M. K. Stalin criticising Hindu marriage practices, he said such utterances never created any big shock for him, since the DMK was always known for such diatribes.
Nonetheless, he was of the view that Mr. Stalin need not have spoken so low about Hindu marriage practices while attending a nikkah.
