Ranchi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate three new medical colleges at a ceremony hosted by the Jharkhand government in Hazaribag on February 17, sources in BJP said on Thursday.
Although the Jharkhand government is yet to announce the itinerary of Modi’s proposed visit, which will be his second to the state in 2019, chief minister Raghubar Das held a closed-door meeting with senior functionaries of BJP and legislator and Parliamentarian of Hazaribag to review the party’s preparations. Hazaribag MLA Manish Jaiswal, Bokaro MLA Biranchi Narayan and party’s state general secretary Dharampal Singh attended the meeting along with other BJP office-bearers.
Speaking to TOI after the meeting, Narayan said the event is scheduled to be held in Gandhi Maidan in Hazaribag. “The Prime Minister will inaugurate three new medical colleges in Hazaribag, Dumka and Daltonganj. He will also inaugurate a few major projects being undertaken by the Jharkhand government,” Narayan said . The construction of these colleges began in 2017 and cost more than Rs 2,000 crore.
Modi, who launched Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) from Ranchi on September 23, had also laid foundations of two medical colleges in Koderma and Chaibasa. In April last year, he laid the foundations for a regional centre of AIIMS at Devipur in Deoghar.
Modi will visit Jharkhand a day after BJP national president Amit Shah. Shah, party sources in Ranchi said, will attend the party workers meeting of Godda, Rajmahal and Dumka parliamentary seats on February 16. Originally slated for January 18, Shah’s visit was deferred after he was diagnosed with swine-flu.
BJP leaders and functionaries in Jharkhand are upbeat that Modi’s visit will boost their morale ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. The party, which won 12 of 14 parliamentary seats in 2014, will be up against anti-incumbency factor and the mahagathbandhan of opposition parties, Congress, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha — Prajatantrik, which on Thursday announced that their framework has been finalized.
