“There are a large numbers of private schools, who have not paid any property tax to DMC. I have ordered my department to prepare a list of these schools so that we can send them notice to collect the tax,” Gama told TOI.
Incidentally, some schools in the city including a few renowned ones were slapped with notice last year asking them to pay building tax, but they moved court against the civic body.
Municipal commissioner Vinay Sankar Pandey meanwhile said,“We have started listing not just schools, but also hospitals, nursing homes and other establishments who did not pay their property tax for several years. Very soon, we will send them notices and proceed with subsequent action thereafter.”
