A new BMW 4-Series Convertible is in the works and it’s set to be quite a lot different than the car we’ve become familiar with.
The most significant alteration to the latest 4-Series Convertible and the outgoing model will be the new car’s inclusion of a folding soft top as opposed to a foldable hard top.
Not only is a folding soft top easier and cheaper to manufacture but it will also weigh significantly less. This is very important as the folding mechanism of the current M4 Convertible makes it roughly 505 lbs (229 kg) heavier than the coupe. This absolutely cripples its performance. In addition to all these benefits, the folding soft top will improve luggage room.
Lighter and better than ever.
BMW will allegedly premiere the new-generation 4-Series in 2020. The new 4-Series Coupe is known internally as the G23 while the 4-Series Convertible has been dubbed the G22.
The 2020 4-Series will obviously resemble the new 3-Series very closely. As a result, there will be sleek new front and rear fascias with different lights to make the vehicle look all that more impressive. According to our spy photographers, there’s a chance that a front grille inspired by that of the new Z4 could find its way onto the front of the updated 4-Series.
Unsurprisingly, the new BMW 4-Series will still be sold with a plethora of four and six-cylinder engines. For the first time, there will also be a plug-in hybrid version of the BMW 4-Series offered, reportedly pitched as a hybrid alternative to the Tesla Model 3.
