A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing a 45-year-old woman, a mother of five, after she refused to marry him. The incident happened in Outer Delhi’s Nangloi on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Rajendra Singh Sagar said the accused has been identified as Shyam Yadav, a resident of Bihar’s Madhubani district and the victim as Madhuri. A knife has been recovered from the accused.
Stabbed multiple times
Police said after they received a PCR call, a team rushed to the spot. But, they were informed that the victim was taken to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. “The victim’s daughter said that Madhuri was stabbed multiple times by Shyam in front of her. Based on her complaint, a murder case was registered,” Mr. Sagar said.
Teams were formed to nab the accused and he was arrested from near a park in Nangloi, police said.
About to leave city
“He was planning to leave the Capital within the next 10 minutes. The weapon of offence, a knife, has been recovered from him,” Mr. Sagar said.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly told the police that he and the victim used to work in the same shoe factory. “He started to love Madhuri and wanted to marry her, but she was not interested. When he started disturbing her, she quit the job. But he continued following her. He wanted to teach her a lesson and therefore he killed her when he got an opportunity,” the DCP said.
Complained to police
The victim’s family said she tried to make him understand a number of times that she was not interested. But, he didn’t listen to her. She had also complained to the police regarding the same a few weeks ago, the family claimed.
