Amid rumours that he was planning to join the YSR Congress Party, sitting Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan on Thursday said he would take a decision in a day or two on his political future after another round of consultations with his close aides and supporters.
Mr. Krishnamohan, after meeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, said the latter responded positively when he raised several constituency-level issues.
Sensing that the situation might go out of control, Environment Minister Sidda Raghava Rao held parleys with Mr. Krishnamohan late on Tuesday and arranged for a meeting with the Chief Minister as the exit of the MLA ahead of the elections would hurt the interests of the ruling party.
‘Communication gap’
Admitting that there had been a “communication gap,” Mr. Krishnamohan said he did not know whether he was able to get across his points of view to the party leadership effectively, or understand what had been communicated to him.
He denied that he had taken a decision to join the main opposition party. “I cannot personally take any decision,” he said.
In the last round of discussions he had with his followers at his native Pandalapalli village, a section of his supporters had suggested a switch to the YSRCP, while another section suggested to him to contest again as an Independent, sources close to the MLA said. Yet another section of his followers opined that he should join the Jana Sena Party.
Mr. Krishnamohan, who had associated himself with the TDP after retaining the seat as an Independent in 2014, was reportedly upset with the party top brass giving prominence to defeated TDP candidate P. Sunitha, who had stoutly opposed his entry into the party.
