2-day workshop exploring food tech concludes
TNN | Feb 8, 2019, 07:20 ISTLudhiana: The two-day research and extension specialists’ workshop for fruits, mushroom, agroforestry, post-harvest management, farm power and machinery, food technology and agricultural economics, organised by the Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, concluded here at the Pal Auditorium on Thursday.
PAU director of extension J S Mahal, who was the chief guest at the event, emphasized on the need for processing and value addition in fruit crops. He exhorted the extension functionaries to sensitise farmers about agro forestry, mushroom cultivation and cooperative farming, which will help generate additional income.
Workshop coordinator T S Riar said apart from lectures on machinery for fruit crops by Mahesh Kumar Narang, department of farm machinery and power engineering, roof top vegetable nutrition garden model using soil less media by K G Singh, department of soil and water engineering, weed management in poplar nursery by Navneet Kaur, department of forestry, insect pest management in agro forestry by K S Sangha, department of forestry, economic scenario of fruit crops in Punjab by J M Singh, department of economics and sociology, there were special presentations by P K Chhuneja, head of department of entomology depicting decrease of pesticide usage in Punjab through Integrated Pest Management techniques.
