Rai and his family was living at a rented house in New Gandhi Nagar Colony. Police said Rai’s elder son became suspicious after his father did not open the door of his room in he morning despite repeated knocks. The family broke open the door around 7.30am and found him hanging from the ceiling.
Rai’s neighbours and his family said he was reeling from financial crisis for the last several months. “My father was under mental stress for a while after his business took a hit. He wasn’t taking his meals on time for the past few days,” Rai’s son said.
Police said Rai was the sole earning member of his family and is survived by two sons and wife. “The deceased was running a nursery in Tupudana which was incurring huge losses. Rai borrowed around Rs 1.5 lakh from a private lender and was unable to repay it. This might have caused him mental stress and prompted him to take the extreme step,” officer in-charge of Doranda police station Arun Kumar Singh said, adding, “We haven’t found any suicide note. The body has been sent to Rims or post-mortem.”
