Indore: With information in hand, practice is all that is required

Indore: Informatics Practices is offered to the students of classes XI and XII with the aim of getting them acquainted with topics like programming, data science, cyber safety and database systems. There is doubt that the subject helps students in staying updated with technology and advancements. However, staying updated with latest developments is often a challenge if students limit themselves to text books.

The subject is also quite scoring if a student plans and studies accordingly. Here are some tips from Informatics Practices expert Ashirwad Mahalkari for scoring excellent results

Informatics Practices – CBSE XII board examination

Important topics and tips
Networking and open software – 10 marks
Studying for this topic should be research based
Students must read about updates in wireless and wired technologies

XML and HTML – 4 marks
This is a small but scoring topic
Do not limit studying the topic in text book. Read and apply the language

MYSQL- 30 marks
This is the highest weightage subject that can help students in passing with flying colours.
It is important that students have written practice of the language and not just computerised function.

Java programming – 20 to 25 marks
This topic requires students to have a conceptual approach.
Students must specifically study Graphic User Interface (GUI) programming.

Preparation Mantra
It is always better to learn concepts by solving a given problem rather than going through the topics again and again. This is a subject where one can solve a question in many different ways. Students should solve as many questions as they can and while doing it learn topics covered in those questions. Students can also make their own questions and solve them to gain confidence.

writing the exam

Question paper planning and rechecking
Time limit is never a problem here. Students should plan the paper in a way that they can solve a question twice. This will help in identifying mistakes made by the students earlier. Use neat and clean handwriting as it makes the solution easier to recheck afterwards.
Be relaxed
Mindset plays a very important role in subjects like Computer Science and Informatics Practices. Make sure that you are stress free and comfortable before entering the exam room. Keep a cool head while writing answers. Drink water in short intervals.

Read the question carefully
IP is a subject where one can easily misunderstand the question. Sometimes the answer to a particular question is easy but students make it complicated. This happens when they don’t fully understand what exactly is asked in the question. The answers to the output questions should be written in exactly the same manner as they would appear on the computer screen. Do the rough work before writing answers. Use multiple lines while writing SQL queries. Use indentation while writing the Java code.
