Prime Minister Narendra Modi has re-affirmed India’s commitment to work towards strengthening its bilateral relationship with Bangladesh, during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s new term in office.
Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Abdul Momen, who called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, briefed the PM on recent developments in the bilateral relationship, according to an official release.
“The Prime Minister said India-Bangladesh relations have been on an upward trajectory in the last few years. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to work with Bangladesh to build on this momentum during the new term in office of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” the release stated.
Momen, who is on his first foreign visit following his appointment as the Foreign Minister last month, will meet his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj on Friday, and will also attend the 5th India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission (JCC) meeting.
The two countries are expected to sign three-five memorandums of understanding in areas such as television broadcasting, medicinal plants and graft investigations on Friday.
Momen said in a media interview that he wanted to consult with Swaraj on the early resolution of the Rohingya crisis, as it may affect regional stability.
