BAREILLY: The atmosphere was tense at Upnagri Saraitarin village under the jurisdiction of Hayatnagar police station in Sambhal district after carcasses of cows were found dumped behind Pataleshvar Mahadev temple.
On receiving information, police reached the spot and removed the carcasses. The station house officer (SHO) said that the situation is under control and they have initiated investigation to nab the accused.
The village is a Muslim-dominated area and has only around 25,000 Hindus compared to over 80,000 Muslims. The priest was the first person to spot cow carcasses dumped near temple who alerted other villagers and soon after police was informed.
Inspector Brij Mohan Giri, SHO of Hayatnagar police station, said, “As soon as we got information, we rushed to the spot and removed the carcasses. We then pacified the agitators assuring arrest in the case. The carcasses were dumped in a Hindu locality and hence the uproar.”
The SHO added that an FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of prevention of cow slaughter Act. “We have also sent the carcasses for examination and the accused will be nabbed soon.”
