Talwar has Mallya links, ED tells court

NEW DELHI: Corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar has links with “fugitive Vijay Mallya”, the ED told a special court on Thursday. Both persons, it added, were evading the process of law.

Ongoing ED investigations into the link sought to determine the trail of “tainted money” in the present case, which alleges public officials abused power and received illegal gratification to give up Air India’s profit-making routes and timings in favour of national and international domestic and foreign private airlines.

The ED case alleges that Talwar received kickbacks of over Rs 200 crore disguised as consultancy fees from foreign airlines for illegally benefiting them by using his contacts with the then civil aviation minister and senior bureaucrats. This was done by withdrawing Air India’s services from lucrative and profit-earning routes.
