CBI favours Asthana men, 'axes' tenure of senior CBI officers Anish Prasad and Abhay Singh
The order came two days after former Madhya Pradesh police chief Rishi Kumar Shukla took over the reins of controversy-hit CBI.

NEW DELHI: New Central Bureau of Investigation Director RK Shukla on Wednesday shunted out an officer probing former Special Director Rakesh Asthana’s role in the Moin Qureshi case while promoting two others who are perceived to be close to Asthana.
The tenures of DIGs Anish Prasad, who had recorded the conversation between Asthana and former Research and Analysis Wing officer Samant Goel in connection with the Qureshi case, and Abhay Singh have been curtailed with immediate effect. While Prasad has been repatriated to his parent cadre of Tripura, the MHA will decide on the placement of Singh.
The CBI chief also promoted Praveen Sinha, a 1988 batch Gujarat cadre officer, and Amit Kumar, a 1998 batch IPS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, both of whom are said to be close to Asthana. While Joint Director Sinha has been promoted as Additional Director, Kumar has been promoted from DIG rank to Joint Director. A feud had erupted between Asthana and former CBI chief Alok Verma, with both officers trading allegations of corruption against each other.
While Asthana had alleged that Verma was interfering with his work, Verma had claimed that Asthana was taking bribes.The agency under Verma had registered an FIR against Asthana.
