The death toll from swine flu in the city is now 38.

Indore: One more patient suffering from deadly swine flu died in a private hospital here on Tuesday night. With this death, the toll has reached seven in the city. Along with it, five more patients have been tested positive of the disease on Wednesday.

Nodal officer of Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme, Dr Amit Malakr Pandit said, “The deceased was a 65-year-old male patient from Green Park Colony in Indore. He was admitted to Bombay Hospital on January 16 and his condition was critical since then.”

Dr Malakar added that the patient was suffering from other ailments including diabetes, blood pressure and heart disease. “We are providing every possible medicinal support to swine flu patients and the hospitals treating them, but patients suffering from other ailments are more prone to the disease,” he said, adding that, “However, taking precautions is the best way to avoid the ‘pig influenza’.” With positive patients in the city, the total number of positive patients reached has 20 so far.

Chances of light rains today

The city on Wednesday witnessed a rise in temperature with mercury hovering over 30 degrees Celsius, turning the weather warm. Meteorological department officials predicted that the city would witness light rains in couple of days from Thursday as the northern part of the state witnessed rains on Wednesday.

“Due to the rains in northern part of the state, the temperature in city would decrease by one or two degrees Celsius for next two days. However, due to cloudy weather, night temperature may increase,” weatherman said. Maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 30.6 degrees Celsius, which was three degrees Celsius above the normal while the minimum temperature was recorded at 15 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees Celsius above the normal.
