Junior engineers directed to submit reports

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will now keep track of unauthorised constructions, encroachments and illegal colonisation in the city with the help of a mobile application.

Speaking at a press conference, Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Yashpal Yadav, on Wednesday said that all junior engineers were directed to submit reports regarding unauthorised constructions in the areas under their jurisdiction through mobile application starting February 16.

He said the report sent by the MCG staff would be tallied with the complaints received from the residents and departmental action would be initiated against the JEs for any discrepancies.

Mr. Yadav said the schedule for the demolition drive would be prepared based on the complaints received and action initiated.

He also released a mobile number for the local residents to share complaints on unauthorised construction, encroachment and illegal colonisation and assured immediate action.

Steps taken so far

Mr. Yadav said 2,489 temporary encroachments were removed, 156 units sealed and demolition was carried out against 141 structures since April 1, 2018.

Besides, 846 notices and 389 demolition orders were issued, he added.

Further he said that more than ₹15 lakh cost was incurred on the special demolition drive carried out from February 1-5 and in a first, the amount would be recovered from the offenders.

Vendors’ issue

In reply to a query on street vending project, Mr. Yadav said the civic body would take special care to ensure that vendors do not set up their carts on the footpaths. He said suggestions would be invited from the market associations and the residents’ welfare associations in this connection.

Mr. Yadav said the civic body was fully prepared to take over the licenced colonies and the development work in these colonies would be initiated as soon as the letter for takeover is received.
