HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court has given two weeks’ time to Telangana to inform to the court the timeframe within which it will appoint Lokayukta and Upa-lokayukta for the state.
“Tell us what steps you have taken,” said a bench of Chief Justice TB Radhakrishnan and Justice A Rajasheker Reddy. The bench was hearing a PIL filed by Forum for Good governance, which challenged the inaction of the authorities in filling the posts despite the fact that has been 15 months since these posts fell vacant and the institution of Lokayukta has become defunct in the state.
More than 5,000 petitions are pending looking forward for their adjudication, the petitioner said. An important institution that makes the government servants accountable for their actions is lying in an inactive state. The state is spending ?12 crore towards salaries and perks to the staff in this office, the petition says. Following a request from advocate general BS Prasad, the bench posted the case to two weeks.
