Rock Creek Edition Makes Nissan Pathfinder More Rugged

Keeping its Pathfinder three-row crossover on shoppers’ shortlists, Nissan revealed a new special-edition model at the Chicago Auto Show, one with rugged looks and more equipment.

The Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition is available on midrange SV and SL trim levels with either front- or all-wheel drive.

Emphasizing its robust nature, models so equipped roll on unique dark-finished 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-season tires. The vehicle’s mesh grille, roof rails, door handles and exterior mirror caps are all finished in black, as is the fender trim.

For added versatility, every Rock Creek Edition Pathfinder comes with a tow hitch, appropriate wiring harness and splash guards. All variants are rated to drag up to 6,000 pounds, more than enough for jet skis, a flatbed or small camper.

Enabling this capability is a 3.5-liter V6 engine with direct fuel injection. It’s rated at an impressive 284 horsepower and 259 pound-feet of torque.

The Rock Creek package is priced at $995, though it includes so much standard equipment it actually saves customers more than $1,300 compared to pricing things out separately.

Beyond all that, these vehicles can be had with two options. The Technology Package, priced at $980, includes a navigation system as well as heat, specifically, heated cloth seats, a heated steering wheel and heated outside mirrors.

The available premium package will set you back an extra $2,110, though it brings a 13-speaker Bose sound system and a panoramic moonroof to the table.

Inside, these special-edition Pathfinders feature upscale two-tone seating surfaces. Contrast stitching is used to great advantage on the steering wheel, door panels, center console lid and seats. Premium metallic trim and special badging are also included.

Like other versions of the Pathfinder, Rock Creek Edition models can be had with a number of additional features, things like an Intelligent Around View Monitor and a motion-activated liftgate.

The 2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition is slated to go on sale this spring.
