The NRI Coastal police have arrested a 30-year-old worker of the Peasants and Workers Party of India for raping a woman after promising her a job.
The accused, Sreerag Kamalhassan, is suspected to have cheated many women as the police have found obscene videos of the accused with various women on his laptop. The 30-year-old complainant used to work at a real estate agent’s office in Seawoods. She met Mr. Kamalhassan in 2017 when he visited her office.
He told her that she should meet him at his office in Ulwe where they could discuss another job opportunity for her. He had suggested to the complainant that since her seven-year-old son was studying in a school in Ulwe, she should probably move to the same place.
“The complainant met Mr. Kamalhassan and they had a talk, where he learned that she was a divorcee. The accused told her that he is also a divorcee and would like to marry her,” a police officer from the NRI Coastal police station said.
The complainant has alleged that the accused visited her at her residence on many occasions and forced her to have a physical relationship with him, the official said.
“She also had to bail him out when the Vashi police had arrested him for a case of visa fraud in 2018,” the officer said. The complainant has further said that the accused assaulted her for refusing to continue a physical relationship.
“A friend of the complainant had recently used the accused’s laptop for some work when she found various obscene videos and photos of the accused along with various women. She informed the complainant, who then realised that the accused was cheating her on the pretext of finding a job for her and marrying her. She then approached us and registered a complaint, after which we arrested Mr. Kamalhassan,” the officer said.
On checking the laptop, the police have found that the accused had recorded obscene videos with at least 15 women without their consent using a spycam.
They have also found that he used an app to record video calls made to various women, in which he made them strip.
Mr. Kamalhassan is also wanted by the Kerala police for cheating many people by promising them jobs and visas for jobs abroad.
The accused has been arrested under Sections 376 (rape) , 376 (2) (n) (committing rape on the same woman repeatedly) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. He is in police custody till Thursday. “Only one complainant has come ahead until now. We hope all the women who have been victims to his promises, will come ahead with a complaint,” the officer said. Recently married, the accused has a five-month-old son.
